On your Taglit-Birthright Israel trip you saw the Western Wall, you climbed Massada, you floated in the Dead Sea, now it’s time to venture off the beaten path and explore other beautiful sites that Israel has to offer.
Muhraka:
Most tourists and even locals have never heard of the Muhraka monastery located on top of Mount Carmel in Haifa. Not only is the chapel itself beautiful, but it is located in an amazing region of Israel. Although it is not the simplest place to get to, we recommend a bus to Dalyat-al-Carmel and from there a cab; the amazing view is well worth it! Once you get there you may take a tour of the three story monastery and the statues surrounding this historical gem. Make sure to go up to the roof of the Chapel where you will see a truly breathtaking view of the Carmel Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea off in the distance.
Top of the Azrieli Towers:
Israel’s tallest buildings, the Azrieli towers are located in the heart Tel Aviv. The buildings are simple to get to and have a prime location and height for a spectacular view of the city. On the 49th floor, there is an observatory with a 3D film on Tel-Aviv, an audio guide describing major landmarks, great restaurant and temporary art exhibitions. Although the film and restaurant are enjoyable, the view alone is enough to warrant a visit. We recommend you go at sunset for the best view of Tel Aviv!
Canada Park:
Canada Park is one of Israel’s beautiful national parks that lies a little west of Jerusalem. The park is very large with many different areas to set up camp. There are also picnic tables throughout the park making it a perfect place to have a quiet lunch with family and friends.
Herziliya Marina:
If you’re looking for a night out of Tel Aviv that’s not too far away, then the Herziliya Marina is a great place to visit. It is only a 15-minute drive north of Tel Aviv and is one of the biggest marinas in Israel. You can enjoy fine dining on the marina while gazing at a lovely view of the many boats and yachts mooring on the dock. There is also a shopping mall with a great selection of stores if you're interested in some after dinner shopping.
Sachne Springs:
Looking for a cool way to get out of the heat and experience nature at the same time? Take a trip to the Sachne Springs. Sachne is a series of natural pools fed by hot springs and a stream with mini-water falls. In between all the springs is a large grassy area which is perfect for a picnic with family and friends. It is a great place to spend the day and explore! Directions - take the 412 bus from Beit Shean or Afula.
